    The Easy Traveller

The Cononmark B4 is an easy-to-use studio strobe that was specifically designed to be lightweight and easy to travel with. Unlike most other portable strobes that use external and heavy battery packs the Cononmark's li-ion battery connects directly onto the strobe unit itself. That means you don't need to drag along an external battery connected to a cable. The Cononmark B4 also includes its own carry case and shoulder strap – making it the ideal partner for the traveling photographer.

    Wireless Flash Control

Included with the Cononmark B4 is its own dedicated flash trigger. This flash trigger is not only used to activate the flash whenever you take a photo, but can also be used to remotely adjust the flash intensity too. That means if you want less or more power from the strobe you can easily do so directly from the flash trigger itself.

    Durable Body

The Cononmark B4 features a metal body that will withstand most of the bumps and knocks of everyday use. The carry case is also quite durable and features and inner soft padding to protect the unit. The Cononmark is therefor a very safe investment for typical outdoor photo shoots.

    Long-Lasting Battery

The B4's battery will last 300 shots on full power. If you want more flashes from the Cononmark you can simply use it with a lesser flash intensity (ex. ¼, 1/8th or 1/16th etc.). At CameraStuff we also sell extra Conomark batteries. So, if you want even more shots out of your strobe you can invest in numerous batteries that can be swapped on the spot. The Cononmark also includes its own charger.

    In summary

The Cononmark is easy to work with. It's lightweight nature and battery design makes it a simple thing to travel around with. The flash trigger is also very useful. You can quickly change the flash settings whenever you need to without touching the strobe itself. Overall, the Cononmark is an excellent strobe to use on-location. It may unfortunately lack TTL and HSS (high speed sync) settings but you can still do a lot with it regardless. It's highly recommended for anyone who wants to up their flash game and for anyone who cannot yet afford the expensive TTL/HSS portable strobes.

first of, let me say I have only had the light for one day and did one test shoot in the studio, so time will tell whether my good impression lasts or fades..

firstly, on un-boxing, finding the unit inside a nice sturdy carry case was a huge surprise. I dont know what I expected in terms of the advertised carry case, but seeing a nice sturdy aluminum case was really impressive.

secondly, and most impressive, was the weight of the strobe.. this thing is LIGHT!! i have had a couple of "portable" strobes that are back breaking to lug around everywhere with their batteries, but this unit is really light making it a pleasure to move around.
the downside perhaps to being so light is if you want to use a large softbox, you will probably have to sandbag the stand you using as it could become front heavy if you use a large rectangular softbox or octobox. I used the supplied Bowmans adapter ring and a 60x 60 softbox and it seems to sit quite comfortably on the stand, but I still remained a little nervous about it tipping forward.

the supplied User Manual was clearly for another model of the light, as the features in the user manual did not match the features on the light supplied, but I was still able to figure out the basic functionality to get it working.

the "cons" about this studio flash :
no battery power level indicator on the battery itself, so when you have the battery disconnected and charging there is no way to know how charged up the battery is.
no "mains" option.. yes i know its a portable light, but the addition of a mains option to power the light when you are indoors would have been great
the recycle time is a little slower than normal studio flashes, not "have a cup of tea while you wait" recycle time, but when you "in the zone" and shooting away you start to miss a few shots due to the slower recycle time compared to mains powered studio strobes.
I found the modelling light to be a little too bright, so it was a bit difficult to set the light up for your shadows and contrasts as the modelling light tended to be very bright.

    "Pros" :

definitely the weight, being so light to carry around is going to be a pleasure
    the supplied carry case
the supplied plug adapter for american flat prong to standard round 2 prong so no need to try find a plug adapter to fit the american plug type.
the freedom it gives you even in an indoor studio - no more worrying about cables and wires for people to trip over.
i shoot mostly small kids and toddlers and i am always petrified they will pull my lights down by tripping over wires or sync cords, being able to move the light and stand around the model with one hand quickly is awesome.

    "BIG PRO" :
the supplied wireless trigger - what a stroke of genius of the manufacturers to include that!! yes it does feel a little flimsy, and, light the light itself, the hot shoe trigger is very light on the camera, but having a studio with 6 studio lights set up in various configurations, i just set all the others to slave and then use the wireless trigger supplied to fire the B$ which in turn fires all the others. and the best part?? the trigger takes 2 standard AAA batteries!
I usually either a sync cable, that risks tripping someone, or a more expensive wireless trigger system that takes some hard to find and very expensive batteries..

my original thinking is that this unit is a little pricey for a 400W strobe, but when you start to factor in the pros of having a cordless light system, its worth it! (Posted on 6/14/18)
